I’m a native French teacher for adults, passionate about languages, human connection, and cultural exchange. I’ve been helping learners of French from all over the world reach their goals for over 18 years — and I truly love what I do.
I was born in Cannes, in the sunny South-East of France. When I was 3, my family moved to Belfort, a town in the beautiful Franche-Comté region, close to the Swiss border. This area is known for its lush forests, cheese (like Comté), wine (including the famous Vin Jaune and Vin de Paille), and its engineering: Peugeot cars and the TGV (the French high-speed train) are made there!
Later, I moved north to Strasbourg, in Alsace, to study history at university. Alsace is a region famous for its wines and Christmas markets.
After my studies, I decided to explore the world by teaching French and learning other languages myself.
I returned to France 10 years ago and decided to settle in Montpellier, in the South of France. After living in Germany (one year) and England (14 years), I was missing the sun a little!
This is a question many of my students ask! I would say I have a neutral French accent, not strongly tied to any specific region. Most French people can’t place it — which makes it ideal for learners of French as a foreign language.
Of course, everyone has an accent (yes, really — everyone!), and mine is probably closest to the Northern French accent.
I teach French because I love it — simply. I’ve always been passionate about languages, cultures, and meeting people from around the world. Each student brings a unique story, background, and goal, and I feel incredibly lucky to share a small part of their journey.
Whether it’s preparing for a move to France, applying for a job, or simply building confidence to speak with French in-laws, I love helping people succeed and watching their progress. My goal is to support each student with kindness, structure, and encouragement — and to make learning French a positive, empowering experience.
Yes, I’m a trained and qualified teacher. I hold two professional teaching diplomas:
• International House Certificate in French Language Teaching to Adults
• Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) — Metropolitan University, UK
I have over 18 years of experience teaching French to adults in France, Germany, and the UK. I’ve worked with learners of all levels (from complete beginners to advanced), and in many settings:
• Universities (Birkbeck University & City University, both in London)
• Language schools
• Private companies and public institutions (including HMRC, the UK’s tax, payments & customs authority and the Canadian High Commission in London)
• Primary schools
• And of course… online French lessons for adults, which I now specialize in.
If you’re looking for a dedicated, friendly, and experienced French teacher, I’d be happy to accompany you on your learning journey. Whether your goal is personal, professional, or both, I’ll do my best to help you feel confident and motivated.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
À bientôt !
Stéphanie
